Abstract
Career comprises all the jobs held during one’s working life. Successful people generally identify their career goals, make a plan, set their development strategy, and take actions. Superior performance, relevant experience, competency development, networking, and opportunity play important roles for one’s career to progress. No organizations require people with only managerial or professional careers, but both. Of the parties responsible for carrer planning and development, it is said that the person concerned is the most responsible. This is true in American and European organizations. Literature on Japanese management indicares that it is not that true in Japanese organiations. This difference is probably due to cultural dissimilarity about employment.
